Karting. One of the best sports in the world. I should know. I’m a regional championship karter. But what I’ve been looking for is a really good and realistic karting game for PC. Now, I’ve looked at games from companies like Microprose and Midas, but their not that great. I’ve even looked at mods for rFactor! But the best ever Karting game has to be this: Manic Karts from 1995!

Presentation: 9/10
Everything is laid out brilliantly in the menus. You say New Game to race, Load Game to continue a saved game, High Scores to check how bad you are, Configure to change things in the game and Exit when you realize you suck.

Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are quite nice SVGA, however they are a bit pixelly but that’s normal. Only real problem I have with graphics is the feel that the karts are ‘floating’ on the track, because the wheels don’t seem to move.

Sound: 7/10
Sound is quite cool, however it does feel tinny at times. I wish the karts sounded better because they just sound like Toyota Priuses on steroids. Nice touch is CD Playback, but for some bizarre reason it turns off all the sound effects!

Gameplay: 10/10
This game has the most realistic turn-in of a kart in any game! You have classes ranging from 50cc-250cc. AI are quite clever. The best thing about the gameplay is it is that it has a ‘simmy’ part and an arcade part, which makes this game extremely fun!

Overall: 8/10
If you like racing games, this is for you. Don’t try to look for any other karting games because this is THE karting game. This is coming from the person who came 6th in the regional karting championship. Enough said.
