Back in the day Midway put a little fighting game into the once populated arcades called Mortal Kombat (MK from now on) and it was a hit. They did what seemed impossible, becoming more popular that street fighter (at least for a little bit). But of coarse due to all the blood and "gore" people became crazy at the fact something like this was made, but now we ask ourselves did MK on the genesis match up to its arcade counterpart.
Graphics:6/10
I'm sorry, but today MK looks like total crap. The backgrounds seemed to be infused with the characters fighting. I'm not quite sure how to put except that time hasn't been good to MK.
Story:10/10
I loved that everyone had these backgrounds that were detailed and the endings were great, like Raiden's or should I say "Rayden" ending where the gods caused the desctruction of Earth and just telling us to have a nice day, classic.
Gameplay:6/10
Sure there the great special moves and finishers, but in the original MK the controls seemed irresponsive and clunky and the hit detection didn't seem to grand. But It was always and accomplishment to beat Goro only to beat kicked in the butt by Shang Tsung.
MK hasn't aged well, but in it's prime it was the king of the hill. I'm just glad they improved it greatly over the years. Let's just hope MK:A is going to be as great as everyone says it's going to be.
