Game review

This title never got high ratings on Playstation, and has failed his entry on the PC games platform. The reason? It would have been a great graphical release for Windows 95 in the year 95 or 96, but 1998? Games as Blood 2, Carmageddon 2, Motorhead or Hard Truck were also released that year , and those were graphically much better , and were using the full capacity´s of those -early- D3D cards and drivers.
Basically the game is a PS clone, and this feeling is strongly present throughout the whole game. Not that the graphics are bad, the lack of dept view is disappointing. You look onto a foggy horizon, to near to be good. The boats themselves and the near walls are pretty good. Also is the `water´ feeling present, with some nice effects. The sound is not better or worse than you would expect from a PS game.
Happily the gameplay is the better part of this game. Don´t expect going in and win some races, you must prepare yourself and learn your way around on the water. That is where the practice possibilities come in handy. Certainly to learn navigate with your power boat, it´s a pain with a joystick, much too nervous, and still pretty hard with the keyboard. If you possess a steering wheel you will be much easier on this game. Bouncing on and back from the shores before getting the steering feeling can be frustrating.
Don´t suppose it is a kind of a rally or formula 1 race, you are on the water, and that is the best part of this game, the water. Nicely done, with good transparency and splashing effects. After every high jump you will submerge. There are several circuits to explore and learn, each with their own hard spots, jumps and decorum, day / night racing. From Japan to The Brazilian Amazone, New York to Russia and others, practice, arcade style, time trial, challenge, even a shootout...more then enough to keep you busy for a while. And don´t forget to look out for the shortcuts, scout them in the practice modus, you gone need them, your adversaries are fast.
All by all it could have been a great PC game, sadly enough it can not hide his PS release, even the alphabetical wheel to put your name onto is present, I am wondered how many gamers are racing around as AAAAAA. It seems they didn´t know a PC comes with a keyboard. The split screen option is not advisable, you gone get a headache if you don´t own at least a 21" monitor, or bigger.
To conclude: the gameplay is better than average, the graphics aren´t. It is a game you can play when you have some time to kill, not one you get hooked on.
