Ah yes, Donkey Kong, a great classic for the SNES. This is one of my favourite games for the SNES. Simply because it is one of the best adventure games ever made for the SNES. Rareware really produced another Donkey Kong hit with this game and many people loved it, and personally... I still love it. Okay lets put this into detail.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is quite the same as in the previous DK games. When you start the game, you can chose between two characters; either Dixie or Diddy. You can switch between the characters at any time because the character you are not controlling will follow you all the time. When you´re hit, you will switch to the other character (so in the end you have 1 life left), when both of the Kongs are dead, you have lost. The level design is also excellent. They are all very creative with a wide range of enemies you can beat up. Every level is a sort of puzzle where you can swim or just walk trough. During the game you´ve to do special combinations or use your wits to defeat an end boss or strong enemies. You can also pick up bananas or ride a rhino which is pretty cool. And the fun part is, there are even signs with 'No rhinos' on them in this case the rhino will just walk away. DK2 also includes a small mini-game where you can test your luck and skills to earn special items or to heal your health. There are also special stages where you´ve to pick up as many bananas as possible to get the highest score possible and earn extra lives. Some levels take place in an amusement park, some on a boat and some even in volcanoes! So all in all, you can see that Rareware has been very creative with this game, because you have to fight against pirates and many other creaturs, for the rest DK2 features many other extras.
Graphics:
The best of the best for the SNES console. The 3-Dish characters look great and they are all very detailed. So is the scenery, it almost looks real. Some levels even have fog which looks really good. Also much time is spend in the look of enemies and the end bosses. They look really great, everything is fantastically detailed. The background looks awesome; the colours really give an atmosphere to the game which most games didn't have for the SNES. The eye candy (the extra scenery like barrels), spotted my eye the first day I played it. Well... what can I say more? The graphics are really superior and a great PRO for the Rareware Company.
Music:
Also outstanding. It has a sort of Super Mario twist; the music keeps playing in your head. Every level has very catchy tunes with some nice sound effects which will really drag you in the level and put you trough a level. The music is a sort of remix from the previous DKC game´s music; nevertheless the sounds are still original. It keeps in touch with the original game, but it also represents something new, it´s just great!
Overall:
This is simply a great game. The graphics are far beyond the other SNES games and the gameplay and the sounds are also something new you've never seen or heard before. It's one of the best side-scrollers for the SNES, and maybe even the best ever made. The game really gives a new look to the SNES and the other Donkey Kong series. If you haven't played it yet, I strongly recommend you should give it a go.

There is a new console out there that plays both SNES and NES games called the "FC Twin Console" and it usually sells for about $60.

WOW ! The best DKC yet! I bought the SNES verson off eBay for like $8,000 and it was SUPERDUPER . But when my Super Nintendo broke down, I bought the GBA version for $30. It isn't worth $.10! The artwork is way worse and you have to PAY to play a boss the second time! I can't find any Super Nintendo consoles anymore, so I can never play it again .
