Game review

ID Software has made a shock in the 3D games world with this game: Doom 95, well actually Doom was the big shock, because Doom 95 is just an improved engine. After Wolfenstein 3D this game was properly the next great breakthrough for ID Software. It was the main talk in the games world in 1995. Again, like any other Doom game, this game doesn't have a real storyline, well sometimes between an episode but that is nothing special, you just have to kill every enemy and hit the end switch or defeat the episode's end boss.
The graphics are very good for its age. Some scenery is blocky but that is quite commen for that year. Most of the scenery don't have a 'count the pixel' effect which is very good. The weapons are okay. Nothing is really detatailed except the last weapon, a great laser gun, which has nice layout. Luckily, some weapons are not realistic which fits in this game and that also makes this game unique. Every enemy is also unique, every enemy looks like a bad alien, but they are also bad aliens because they'll never help you. Onto the background, two years later it was properly crap but now for its age it looks great. It effects the planet that you are on, for example when the background is dark red, it gives an extra effect that you are on a hell planet of some sort. With the graphics it doesn't really give you the feeling that you are in a horror game but not many games had that effect yet.
The gameplay is a sort of Wolfenstein 3D. The scrolling is not fast enough so you will be attacked 3 times before you can see the enemy. Again, you can prevent this problem by holding the SHIFT button. The end bosses are really difficult in this game, the rest will only irritate you because of the 'famous' maze levels, but to solve this 'problem' ID Software introduced a map function, press TAB to use it. Unless this big 'maze effect' you won't get bored in no time like you should expect, because there are four episodes of fun in the full game. Every level is really unique and the levels are not repitive. Also every weapon effect is quite realistic. When you shoot someone with your shotgun he just falls dead and when you blast him with your bazooka the only things what are remaining are a few bones and some blood. Lots of fun to watch it and it's really good on the other side. You can also blast on toxic barrel and the barrel itself and the barrels around it will explode and the enemies that are in the big 'bang' will die in no time, it's a great extra thing but watch out you can also kill yourself. There is also an episode map which is nice and gives an idea of where you are. Every level you completed is marked, how could it be diffirent, with a blood spot.
The audio effects are fantastic. When you are in a level, you'll hear a horror background song and also some monster sounds. When an enemy dies is also very realistic, just check it out by yourself is my suggestion. I just want to say: the general audio and voice acting is great, well voice... I can better call it monster-sounds.
Well, with this review I just want to mention that this is a great classic and may not be forgotten. The gameplay, graphics, audio and more effects really make this game unique and give it a special touch. I want to recommend Doom for every classic 3d shooter fan. Go play it and enter the great world of Doom...

Also "DoomGuy" always puts his gloves out, because the knuckleduster is so big to fit on it. When you hit someone with it, it makes a thud noise.

Ran this on Win98SE, but the game framerate (read: lag) was poor if I have the music on. But with the music off, I have better framerate.

There are two new codes "fhhall" prints the message "...By request" and terrminates all enemies (except Lost Souls) and "fhshh" prints the message "..Be vewy vewy quiet." Makes enemies blind. Turning it off prints: "Achoo!", meaning you sneezed at the enemies.
