If ever there were an Academy Award for Best NES Game, this might easily take the cake.
After meeting our loveable gray marshmallow on the GameBoy, we see Kirby improved by 200%. This game was revolutionary to the platforming genre, introducing the unique ability to gain abilites from enemies, and from ingesting them, no less! Last but not least, Kirby turns pink.
Sound 7/10 : Now for a veteran NES player, the sound might be unremarkable, or even redundant. It wasn't exactly the sound effects that wowed me, but the soundtrack. Few songs, if any, were recycled, and each one had me tapping my foot. The tune when you first upload the game is a wonderfully quirky song that makes me giggle non stop when I hear it.
Graphics 9/10 : Once again, a very major attention to detail. Among the most memorable parts is running along a tower, watching as the lighting and shadows bring the structure into very convincing 3D. Each ability has its own animation, and all of them were [relatively] believable and well done. When Kirby has the Cutter ability, you know he ain't throwing croissants.
Gameplay 9/10 : This game is vast. World after world filled with levels, each one unique. Even if Kirby could not copy abilities, the game would be a gem. However, adding in this feature makes it truly a wonder. Each ability in some way changes how the game is played, giving this game an intense replay value. The controls are very simple, the response is perfect, and the mini-games and well-orchestrated boss battles round this out to be a diamond in the rough.
