Short Introduction:
Wolfenstein 3D is a first person shooter. You are a hero called B.J. Blazkowicz with one goal shoot Nazis down and complete the mission. Wolfenstein 3D is a remake of the game "Castle Wolfenstein". With revolutionary graphics and six episodes of fun. You have to find a way through the episodes by collecting keys, shooting enemies down, find a way through the exit of every mission (it´s an elevator). Every episode has nine different levels; all of them are big mazes. On your way you will be confronted by hundreds of Nazis and dogs, your mission is to shoot them down, otherwise they will do the same to you so don´t be friendly to them just shoot when you see them.
Features:
Wolfenstein 3D contains six different episodes. All episodes have nine levels and a secret level, so on the whole this game has sixty levels, a lot when you look at a game such as Doom II (32 levels), but I have to say that the missions are pretty short mostly it will take you about three or four minutes to complete a level, that´s very short. On your way you can get four different weapons, a knife, a machine gun, a handgun and a much more advanced machine gun. Every weapon is different in look and quality. I prefer the standard machine gun because this gun doesn´t use hundreds of bullets to shoot only one Nazi down, that´s actually what you do when you use the more advanced machine gun, but when you don´t like a specific gun you can change to another simple by pressing the numbers one up to four on your keyboard. This game contains five standard enemies (a dog, a trooper, a Mutant Guard, a SS Guard and an officer) and nine bosses, the standard enemies will show up many times especially Troopers and the SS Guards, the way to get them down is just shoot at them or use your knife to kill them (the knife only works in close combats).
The Graphics:
The graphics are very good for its age, especially when you think of the fact that this was one of the first first person shooters with a real 3-Dimensional environment. Wolfenstein 3D has a 256 colour VGA engine what makes this game very modern for 1992. The game itself doesn´t have any support for shadow effects, and every room is as light as all rooms for the rest the ceilings and floors only have one colour, but the walls are textured so a big part of your screen will only have one boring colour. The graphics engine is not something you can call "a beauty" but that´s also the reason why it runs smoothly on 286 PC´s, so when you compare that you will come to the conclusion that this game looks good enough.
Music and Sounds:
This game contains about fifty different little sounds, such as shots, opening doors, closing doors, dying people, happy sounds when you find keys, and a lot of other sound effects most of them are about 1 second long, but they don´t irritate you when you hear them for the 200th time in a row so don´t be sad about that. The music of this game is very nice, there is a variation of about 10 different tracks, nine of them rock!, when you like to hear the music before you download or buy a copy of Wolfenstein 3D you can listen to the music simply by downloading the "In-Game Music" files from our server, you can listen to them with Winamp and other applications like that.
The Gameplay:
The gameplay sucks in many ways for example when you want to look very quickly to the left and to the right you will already get a bullet through your head from someone that´s standing on the right because the camera doesn´t switch quick enough to make it possible to shoot him down before he will shoot you down, you can speed this process a little by holding the right "Shift" button on your keyboard, this button is normally used to run but it also speeds up the camera. The gameplay reacts a little bit too slow on commandos that you give the game but for the rest it´s good, I can´t tell you anything that should be wrong or could be better.
What do you have to do?
What you have to do is just walk around, search for keys of specific doors, shoot enemies down and finally locate the exit. It sounds simple and it´s simple but watch out for enemies especially when you higher up the standard difficulty level from "Bring `em on!" to "I am Death incarnate!". Next to the usual objects (search for keys and shoot enemies down) you can also go to secret levels to find them you have to search for secret walls which you can give a little punch (just hit spacebar to do this).
Conclusion:
This game is still for sale at the Apogee website for $15.00 (exclusive shipping), I think that´s too expensive for a game like this. It´s a good game but 15 bucks is too much not because this game shouldn´t have enough levels but because this game is boring after a couple of hours. So my advice will be don´t buy it at the Apogee website but try to get a cheaper copy somewhere. Once again Wolfenstein 3D is a great game but it doesn´t contain enough variation to keep you busy for hours and hours these days.

Cool game for back in the day, I believe this was the first 360 degree game. Way fun to play, especially if you could find mods for it. I remember having a good simpsons one, same as the one for Doom
