In the beginning Microprose was a publisher of flight and military simulators for 8bit computer systems (such as the Commodore 64 and Apple II). In the late eighties Microprose switched to better computer systems (such as the Personal Computer and the Amiga). In 1990 Microprose released their most famous game nowadays "Civilzation", Civilization is a strategy game, unless this great success Microprose quickly ran into financial problems that's why a company called "Spectrum Holybyte" acquired Microprose in 1993. After this acquirement a lot of games came out under the "Microprose" label such as Colonization, Civilization II and Master of Magic. Hasbro acquired Microprose in 1998, in the year 1999 Infogrames (Atari) acquired Microprose from Hasbro and in the end, the year 2003, Atari closed the last Microprose studios, this was the end of Microprose.

By Ken185 - Sep 16 2009 - 23:57 Well...there are MANY kick ass games from many good developers.But just a few companies are LEGENDS.Microprose did so many games so well,and the quality of their products was outstanding.I personally loved their flight simulations the most (fleet defender,f19,f15 strike eagle...) to name a few.but i also enjoyed darklands,sword of the samurai,red storm rising...and many many more.along with Looking glass and SSI the best software companies ever !!! ))
