Company description

For more than two decades, Atomic Games has mixed real-life military tactics with unique technology to create innovative game experiences.

Created in 1989, Atomic scored a Game of the Year award for its very first title, V for Victory. Since then, Atomic has released more than a dozen titles, which have won many dozens of awards.

Atomic helped launch the real-time strategy genre with its pioneering Close Combat series. Published by Microsoft as one of its first entries into video gaming, the Close Combat games have sold more than one million units and been named among the “50 Best Games Ever” by PC Gamer in 1998, and a “Top 10 Strategy Game of All Time” by Gamespy in 2004.

In 2003, Atomic released Close Combat Marine, the first game of commercial origin to be integrated into training curriculum throughout the US Marine Corps. Since then, Atomic has created numerous training tools for many of the world's leading military and intelligence organizations. In 2005, Atomic accepted an investment from In-Q-Tel, a private venture capital firm funded by the US Central Intelligence Agency.

In 2009, Atomic announced Six Days in Fallujah, which recreates the true stories of the Marines and Iraqis who fought in the largest and bloodiest urban battle in nearly half a century. Six Days in Fallujah is a documentary-style experience that uses the interactivity, action, and visceral impact of videogames to provide deeper insight into modern war than can be offered through passive forms of media. It is being created with the help of dozens of Marines and Iraqis who were in the battle and is intended to challenge perceptions about what a videogame can be.

About a month after it was announced, Atomic's funding and publishing partner, Konami, withdrew from Six Days in Fallujah due to the sensitive nature of the game's content. Atomic has continued making progress on Six Days in Fallujah on its own.

In 2010, Atomic announced Breach. The most ambitious console game ever created for digital download, Breach is a first-person multiplayer shooter that arms players with dozens of new ways to stun, manipulate, and eliminate their opponents through the most advanced destruction system ever released in a military shooter.

Atomic is a privately held corporation headquartered in Raleigh, NC.
