X-COM: UFO Defense - Hex Cheats
|
Money cheat:
------------
Pick any of your saved games, mentioning its save slot number. Open its directory on your disk drive (save slot #1 is under GAME_1 directory, slot #2 under GAME_2, etc.) and find the file named LIGLOB.DAT. Open it with a hex editor (any would do and there are free ones on the net, just google it) and change the starting 4 bytes of the file like this:
Address | Value
----------------
00000000 | ff
00000001 | ff
00000002 | ff
00000003 | 5f
Save the file, start your game and load the saved game slot you just edited. Your funds would have raised to $1.6 billion - mostly enough to complete the game.
WARNING!
The absolute maximum of money you can have is $2 147 483 647 (address 00000003 = 7f). If you get too greedy on the hexing or start some weird in-game trade and your funds raise above that number, your account will actually go NEGATIVE (-$)! If that should happen simply adjust as described above.
Elerium cheat:
--------------
You need a hex editor for this one as well. Browse to the saved game directory and load BASE.DAT in the hex editor. To get some elerium simply change like this:
Address | Value
----------------
000000d8 | ff
000000d9 | 6f
Save file and load that game. That should inject some Elerium-115 right into the general stores of base #1. From there you can transfer and redistribute as needed. Or could inject directly into the other bases general stores by shifting the offset by 292 bytes forward:
Address | Value
----------------
000001fc | ff
000001fd | 6f
for base #2
Address | Value
----------------
00000320 | ff
00000321 | 6f
for base #3 and so forth.
WARNING!
The absolute max ammount of Elerium-115 you can have at a given time in a single base is 32 767 (ff 7f). If you try to inject more you'll actually get a NEGATIVE amount! If that should happen simply adjust as described above.
BONUS:
Following the above scheme you could inject (create/insert/add/change - call it however you like) virtually anything you could find in your stores at any stage in the game - scientists, engineers, aircraft weapons and ammo, conventional weapons and ammo, lasers, plasmas, misc equipment, alien technology, corpses, etc. The items' address space is 2 bytes and the base as a whole 292 bytes. Right after that starts the next base address space, so knowing where an item is in one base can easily predict its location in the others as well (see the elerium example above).
